Who can practice Raja Yoga meditation?

  • Those who live in the household and maintain their responsibilities.

  • Brahma Kumaris is not a monastic lifestyle. 

  • Involves learning to renounce weaknesses that give sorrow to others.

What does "Om Shanti" mean? 

  • Om Shanti is a greeting of peace, not a mantra.  "I am a peaceful soul." 

Why do you wear white clothes?

  • White is a symbol of purity and peace.  It is a reminder that I will not fight with myself or others.  I will resolve issues with wisdom and calmness.

  • I will maintain purity and honesty in my relationships.

  • It is not mandatory to wear white cloths.  Teachers who conduct classes and meditation wear white cloths.  The majority of students wear normal attire. 

Why you do not worship or read scriptures?

  • Deep love for God is expressed by understanding that God is a Supreme Soul, and by practicing His qualities in life.  It is not renunciation of worship, rather transcending to a higher calling. 

Why is the institution named Brahma Kumaris (daughters of Brahma)?

  • The institution was named Brahma Kumaris to honor women and bring out their motherly qualities to serve the world.  Men also are instruments in this task.

What does Shiva mean?

  • Shiva in Hindi language means "a seed."  Shiva does not mean God or a deity.  A seed creates.  The Supreme Being is the creator of the human world, thus He is called Supreme Father Shiva or Shiv Baba.
